This is not “one of the Seagulls,” but a concentrate of it: and although the lines of Chekhov’s heroes are sometimes mixed up, and the secondary characters are stuck together, turning into two in one, Dodin’s free “composition on the theme” leads the audience towards the author: it brings them closer to the essence of Chekhov’s plot, often overlooked (Internet portal “Prochtenie”).
